Support for families and caregivers includes:
1) Autism Resource Line
Feeling overwhelmed? Need help finding resources, support, and services? We can help! Our trained Resource Line Coordinator will provide you with answers to your questions and information on a wide-range of resources in your area.
Special events take place throughout the year just for children with autism and their families! Some of these events include Autism Day at Sesame Place and the Please Touch Museum. Accommodations are made to these events to provide a sensory-friendly experience for all!
3) Next Steps Workshop
Variety, CHOP & CAR jointly present a comprehensive workshop for families that have just received the diagnosis; also great for professionals who want to learn more about autism. Held periodically throughout the year.
4) Weekend Retreats & Family Fun Days
Retreats are held at Variety Club’s Camp & Development Center in Worcester. These weekends provide an opportunity for the whole family to enjoy themselves in an accepting, non-judgmental atmosphere! Family Fun Days are held a couple of times per year in different locations.
5) Variety’s Autism Parent Network (VAPN)
Monthly meetings are held in the evening at our camp in Worcester. Specific speakers and topics in autism are discussed. There is also time for parents and professionals to mingle and provide support to one another. Childcare is available.
6) Developmentally Appropriate (and inclusive!) Playgroups
For all children from 3 months to 5 years of age. Held on Thursdays at our camp in Worcester and at St. Patrick’s church in Norristown.
7) Sibling Clubs
A casual and fun environment for brothers & sisters ages 6-12 to make new friends that understand the challenges (and joys!) of having a sibling with autism. Held in Philadelphia and at our camp in Worcester.
