Thousands of Children Experience a Magical Weekend at Sesame Place

On April 24th and 25th, Sesame Place was kind enough to open their park exclusively to children with disabilities and their families. This rain-or-shine event had a little of both; however, a great time was had by everyone who attended this wonderful weekend, interacting with Elmo, Big Bird, Abby Cadabby and the rest of our favorite furry friends.
Saturday’s portion of the event, specially tailored for children with Autism and their families, was a huge success, with nearly 5,000 people taking part in the Sesame Place Day for Children with Autism. Along with the various rides and attractions offered at Sesame, there were also a number of outside organizations present, including our friends from LoJack, who provided information and resources specific to helping families with a child on the Autism Spectrum.
Sunday’s portion of the event, the Annual Sesame Place Challenge, is one of the longest running events held by Variety -The Children’s Charity. For over twenty years, Sesame has graciously hosted children with all disabilities, inviting them to come out to the park and have a great time – a very special invitation, indeed, as it occurs one week before the park opens to the general public. Well over 3,000 people came to Sesame that day, shaking off a bit of morning drizzle and having a tremendous time with the roller coaster, Elmo Rocks!, and , of course, the Rock Around the Block Parade with the amazing characters of Sesame Place – the only place where Sesame Street comes to life.
This year marks both the 30th Birthday of the Park and Variety’s 75th Birthday. Our partnership with Sesame is cherished and deeply valued, and we appreciate the opportunities they offer to us. The Children of Variety absolutely love this event and Sesame Place gives them time to just be a kid and a chance for parents to experience their joy, surrounded by other families with children who face similar daily challenges. It was an amazing weekend, filled with laughter, smiles, and fun for over 8,000 children with disabilities and their families.
