Overnight Camp
Overnight Camp for Campers with Physical and Developmental Disabilities
We are offering six one-week camping sessions beginning Sunday, June 24, 2012. The one-week sessions begin on a Sunday and run through the next Saturday - 7 days and 6 overnights of Camp fun! 2012 Camp tuition is $600 per week. To download an application, click on the Download Forms link below.
Here are some highlights of the summer 2012 program:
- All sessions will include campers with special needs ages 7-21 years - campers ages 18-21 need to be enrolled in an educational program in a public or parochial school system to be eligible for camp. Campers are grouped in cabins according to age and functioning level, and programs are also geared to the ability of the individual camper. Each session will have a maximum of 50 campers, and a 1:3 staff ratio will be in place. Some campers will require a 1:2 staff ratio that may be arranged at Variety Club Camp!
- Two of our camping sessions will accept children and young adults with physical disabilities (like cerebral palsy, spina bifida, muscular dystrophy and others) AND/OR developmental delays (like autism, Down Syndrome, mental retardation and other developmental disabilities). These sessions allow for more camping options for families, and brings together groups of children for a fun camping experience that Variety Club Camp has been offering for over 50 years! These sessions are called "PD/DD" on the attached application.
- We have three distinct sessions for campers with developmental delays - these are children and young adults with diagnoses like autism, Down Syndrome, mental retardation and other developmental disabilities. These campers are usually able to walk, and often need assistance with other care and behavioral needs. Variety Club Camp offered overnight camping for these children and young adults in the summer of 2008 for the first time, and it was a big success! These sessions are called "DD" on the attached application.
- We have one unique session this season for campers with physical disabilities like cerebral palsy, spina bifida and muscular dystrophy that have a high level of functioning and social skills. These campers, often mainstreamed into typical education settings, will have a camping session with their peers that include the Camp Prom and lots more! This session is called "PD" on the attached application.

- Week 3 (Sunday, July 8th - Saturday, July 14th) (DD)

- Week 5 (Sunday, July 22nd - Saturday, July 28th) (DD)
- Week 6 (Sunday, July 29th - Saturday, August 4th) (PD)
