Extended School Year

Program Mission

To provide a safe and structured educational experience for children with varying disabilities that focuses on social interactions and academic progress while engaging in IEP and group activities.

School age children (ages 5-21) who qualify for ESY based on their IEP (Individual Education Plan) can apply for this program. School districts fund the program based on IEP approval. Each classroom is led by a Teacher certified in Special Education and includes Teaching assistants who are majoring in teaching or a related field. Specialists are available in Speech, Occupational, and Physical Therapy.

The ESY program consists of a 6 or 8 week program (set dates).  There is a 1:3 staff/student classroom ratio (1:2 for the younger ages).  Curriculum is based on Individualized instruction in IEP goals and Group social skills/socialization activities. There are daily reinforcement periods at the end of the morning and end of the day in which students choose activities of interest. For students of transitional age (14-16), the afternoon group session focuses on Pre-vocational Activities.
