The Busy World of Nic and Gabe

by Elizabeth Lipp

Although I am extremely backed up in work right now, I have to dash out a quick few lines about the weekend, because it was a good one.

Friday night was the Center Square Fire Expo, and now that we had finally gotten around to doing the Fort Washington Expo (after living here six years), my boys are hooked on fire engines. They both are tactile learners, so the hands on experience in handling a fire extinguisher to put out a fire, using the fire hose to hit targets, and visiting the smoke house really gave them a lot of enjoyment. Of course I think the highlight was when the bomb squad blew up the pumpkin at the short stop position in the ball field at dusk.

Nic jumped up and down and laughed. Gabriel put on a boo boo face and expressed sadness for the pumpkin that would never become a pie.

Saturday was packed;  the boys had the family fun day while I attended a meeting; while they didn't swim in the pool, they had a lot of fun playing with kids they knew and working on various projects in the gym. I met up with them and my friends at the barbecue. Nic and Bradley (also one of Variety's ambassadors) are quickly becoming buddies and enjoy each other's company immensely.

A funnier moment involved waiting for the tractor ride. We were the only ones there until the tractor pulled up; suddenly, we were surrounded. Bradley's mom noted that she hoped we (meaning all four of us) would get on the ride, since we were there first.  Nic took Bradley by the hand, led him to the front of the line, and I heard him announce "We were here first."

Actually, this time, he was right.  Bradley's mom had a good laugh.  We let the boys go on their own, and they did fine.

We stopped off at another friend's birthday party, long enough to drop off a gift, get some cake, and head over to soccer. We doubled back to the friend's house after soccer and the library, finally settling home around 7-a long day.

Yesterday, we went to church (boys did fine), and spent a few hours at Castle Playground in Lansdale. Nic played with a bunch of different kids, as did Gabriel.  Nic is moving along here, but G needs more help. We went back and played at our friends again until 7.

Both kids slept really well the last couple of nights. Now it's back to business.  And time for mom to play catch up......
